  • T.S. Cooley Students Travel to Tanglewood Elementary to Bring Donated Books

Seven Cooley students, three parents, principal, Emily Alcock, first grade teacher, Phyllis Guidry, and librarian, Mary Lanier traveled to Baton Rouge to Tanglewood Elementary School on Friday, January 13 to deliver 38 Scholastic books and 8 Scholastic dictionaries that were purchased by parents during Cooley's fall Scholastic Book Fair. Tanglewood flooded during the 2016 August heavy rainstorms in Baton Rouge and their library lost 90% of their 10,000 book collection. Tanglewood is a first and second grade school with approximately 700 students. The Cooley visitors were greeted at the entrance of the Tanglewood Elementary by Tiffany Penton, Tanglewood's librarian, students holding a creative "thank you" sign, hundreds of "thank you" cards, and cookies! The principal, also, visited with them and thanked them for their generous and caring donation and personal visit to her school. During the grand tour of Tanglewood's newly renovated school, the Cooley group met many smiling and welcoming students and teachers who thanked them for the Scholastic books and their personal visit to the school.
